WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO REACH OUT TO THE PEOPLE OF BURKINA FASO?
DIANE BACHAND
Project Manager, Africa
Primarily because Burkina Faso has one of the world’s lowest indexes for human development. When you know that half of its population lives in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.25 per day, it seems like an obvious choice. In the Cascades and Hauts-Bassins region, less than 56% of the population has access to safe water. Many different factors, including informal mining and extensive sugar cane culture, jeopardize local access to water.
