High-Frequency Words 1
Building automatic recognition of the first 25 high-frequency sight words. Students practice recognizing these common words instantly to build reading fluency.
Objective: Students will recognize and read the first 25 high-frequency words automatically (within 3 seconds per word) to build the foundation for fluent reading.45 minutes - 3
High-Frequency Words 2
Building automatic recognition of the next 25 high-frequency sight words, with cumulative practice of all 50 words from Sets 1 and 2.
Objective: Students will recognize and read 25 new high-frequency words automatically, and demonstrate cumulative mastery of all 50 words from Sets 1 and 2.45 minutes - 4
Reading Accurately
Focus on accuracy as the foundation of fluency. Students learn to read every word correctly before focusing on speed, using self-monitoring strategies.
Objective: Students will read passages at their independent level with 95%+ accuracy, using self-monitoring strategies to identify and correct errors.45 minutes - 5
Building Speed
Increasing reading rate while maintaining accuracy. Students learn that smooth, connected reading comes from automatic word recognition, not rushing.
Objective: Students will increase their reading rate through repeated reading practice while maintaining 95%+ accuracy, understanding that speed comes from automaticity, not rushing.45 minutes - 6
Phrasing Introduction
Introduction to reading in meaningful chunks rather than word-by-word. Students learn to group words together using phrase-cued texts with scoops and use punctuation as natural phrase boundaries.
Objective: Students will read text in meaningful phrases rather than word-by-word, using phrase scoops and punctuation marks as guides to natural phrase boundaries.45 minutes - 7
Repeated Reading Practice
Using same-text practice to build automaticity. Students learn the structured repeated reading process (cold read, practice, hot read) and understand that each reading should focus on improving one specific element.
Objective: Students will apply the repeated reading strategy using a structured cold read-practice-hot read cycle, focusing on one element per reading to build automaticity and demonstrate measurable improvement.45 minutes - 8
Review and Application
Comprehensive review integrating all fluency components: accuracy, rate, and expression. Students demonstrate cumulative mastery of sight words, apply all fluency skills to connected text, complete self-assessment, and set goals for FL-2.
Objective: Students will demonstrate mastery of all FL-1 skills by reading a passage fluently with accuracy (95%+), appropriate rate, and expression, while articulating their growth and setting goals for FL-2.45 minutes
