    Learn how periods, commas, and question marks tell us how to read aloud with appropriate pauses and intonation.

    Objective: Students will respond to periods, commas, and question marks with appropriate pauses and voice changes while reading.

    Exclamations and Dialogue

    Learn to read exclamation points with strong feeling and use character voices for dialogue in quotation marks.

    Objective: Students will read exclamatory sentences with appropriate emotion and use different voices for characters in dialogue.

    Phrasing Practice

    Learn to read in meaningful phrases rather than word-by-word using phrase-cued reading techniques.

    Objective: Students will read text in meaningful phrases instead of word-by-word, grouping words that belong together.

    Echo Reading

    Develop prosody skills by immediately echoing a fluent model's reading with matching expression and phrasing.

    Objective: Students will echo fluent reading models, matching expression, phrasing, and intonation immediately after hearing them.

    Partner Reading

    Practice fluency skills through collaborative reading with a partner, providing and receiving supportive feedback.

    Objective: Students will practice fluent reading with a partner, giving and receiving constructive feedback on expression and phrasing.

    Reader's Theater Introduction

    Learn to perform scripts with expression using Reader's Theater techniques.

    Objective: Students will perform a Reader's Theater script with appropriate character voices and expression.

    Review and Application

    Apply all prosody skills learned in FL-2 to demonstrate expressive reading across different text types.

    Objective: Students will apply all FL-2 prosody skills (expression, punctuation response, dialogue, phrasing, echo reading, partner reading, performance) across varied texts.
