What Your Child Will Learn
- 1
Magic E Introduction
Understand how silent e at the end of a word changes the vowel from short to long.
Objective: Students will understand that adding a silent e to a CVC word changes the vowel sound from short to long (the vowel 'says its name').45 minutes - 2
Long A Words
Read and spell words with the a_e pattern (make, cake, lake).
Objective: Students will accurately read and spell words with the a_e pattern, demonstrating understanding that the silent e makes the a say /ay/.45 minutes - 3
Long I Words
Read and spell words with the i_e pattern (like, bike, time).
Objective: Students will accurately read and spell words with the i_e pattern, demonstrating understanding that the silent e makes the i say /eye/.45 minutes - 4
Long O Words
Read and spell words with the o_e pattern (home, bone, hope).
Objective: Students will accurately read and spell words with the o_e pattern, demonstrating understanding that the silent e makes the o say /oh/.45 minutes - 5
Long U Words
Read and spell words with the u_e pattern (use, cute, tube).
Objective: Students will accurately read and spell words with the u_e pattern, understanding that long u can sound like /yoo/ or /oo/.45 minutes - 6
Short vs. Long Vowels
Contrast short and long vowel sounds in minimal pairs (CVC vs CVCe), developing auditory discrimination and spelling choice skills.
Objective: Students will accurately distinguish between short and long vowel sounds in minimal pairs, correctly reading and spelling CVC and CVCe words based on the vowel sound heard.45 minutes - 7
Mixed CVCe Practice
Apply all long vowel CVCe patterns (a_e, i_e, o_e, u_e) in varied contexts with fluency focus.
Objective: Students will automatically read mixed CVCe words from all four patterns (a_e, i_e, o_e, u_e) with fluency, complete word chains with vowel changes, and accurately spell mixed CVCe words from dictation.45 minutes - 8
Review and Application
Consolidate CVCe reading and spelling skills through cumulative review, assessments, and transfer to unfamiliar words.
Objective: Students will demonstrate mastery of all CVCe patterns by explaining the magic e rule, reading a decodable passage fluently, spelling CVCe words accurately, identifying and correcting errors, and decoding unfamiliar CVCe words independently.45 minutes
