Comparison Words
Learn to use and respond to academic comparison words: compare, contrast, similar, different, alike, both, however.
Objective: Students will understand and correctly use comparison words (compare, contrast, similar, different) and recognize signal words for similarities and differences in speaking, writing, and reading.45 minutes - 4
Analysis Words
Learn to use and respond to academic analysis words: analyze, examine, investigate, observe, determine, and conclude.

Sequence Words
Learn to use and recognize sequence words that show the order of events: first, next, then, finally, meanwhile, during, before, after.

Learning Words from Reading
Learn independent word-learning strategies to figure out unknown words while reading: using context clues, finding definitions in text, looking for examples, and identifying synonyms or antonyms.
Objective: Students will apply four word-learning strategies (context clues, definitions in text, examples, and synonyms/antonyms) to independently determine the meaning of unknown words while reading.45 minutes - 8
Review and Application
Mixed practice applying all academic vocabulary categories (description, comparison, analysis, sequence, cause-effect) across reading, speaking, and writing contexts with self-assessment of vocabulary growth.
Objective: Students will demonstrate mastery of academic vocabulary by identifying and using description, comparison, analysis, sequence, and cause-effect words across reading, speaking, and writing contexts, and will self-assess their vocabulary growth.45 minutes
